1. The creator of the In n' Out chain has passed. This is the Double Double Farewell, as posted in the Daily News. It is a sad, sad day in Los Angeles.
2. My cat has been pretty lethargic lately. She's made a new home of the dining room table. It took me about a week of "sulking" to realize that she seemed kind of lonely and yeah, come to think of it, I hadn't seen her "friend" around in quite a while. In fact, the last time I saw her friend was probably around the time the renters across the street moved out and the home went up for sale. Ah, my poor baby... it looks like her boyfriend as moved away. Of course, nothing that a whole lot of catnip couldn't cure. Now, she's been walking around the house with her head rubbing on the floor!
3. Ipods. OK, I've been introduced to the world of itunes and I can totally understand the benefit. I love music as much as the next guy. I guess I'm just fortunate to have a soundtrack in my head that plays all the time, though. When riding on the metro, it's amazing how many people live in their own little worlds, completely disconnected from all reality. While I'm envious at times, mostly I think it's sad how lost these people can get in their worlds while totally being immersed in a world with lots going on. Applause goes out to my friend who just got an ipod and wore it on the train once, only to abandon it in public spaces for feeling among the disconnected. And if you're a writer, how could you use one? I don't know how a writer could pass up the opportunity to be on public transportation and tune themselves out. There is so much material ripe for the picking on the buses and subways. Not that I wouldn't want one for my car or something... but when I'm in close proximity to people, I think I like to be a little bit more aware of what's going on around me.
4. Buzzzz. You know that sound that your car makes when you leave the keys inside but the door is open? Buzz buzz buzz, etc. OK. Imagine that, except without the pauses. Buuuuuuuuuzzzzzzzzzz (etc.) OK. Now, imagine it makes that sound ALL THE TIME, if the car is on or not, if the door is open or not, and even if (get this) the keys aren't in the ignition! That happened to me last Oct./Nov. The buzz chimer died and they don't make them any more. So, last year I found one at a dealer who had a junker of my car in the back he was using for parts, and he sold me his buzz chimer. Well, looks like the life of a buzz chimer is about 11 years. The replacement died yesterday. Remove it, you say? The buzz chimer also operates the automatic door locks. Manually open and close your car doors, you say? Not so easy when the guys who tried to bust in your car last December bent in the passenger door lock. Suffer, you say? Yeah, that's probably what's going to happen. I will suffer with this along with the leaking dashboard (which still isn't fixed), the radio panel whose display is giving out, the paint that is giving way to primer and the myriad of other problems. Yeah, I started looking for another vehicle. But I also don't have the funds quite yet. This, after plunking all that money into my car in the hopes I could get another year out of it... That remains to be seen, but it ain't looking good.
